Students listened to and took notes over the following songs or poems: "Hakuna Matata" from the Lion King soundtrack, "Return to Pooh Corner" by Kenny Loggins, and "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost. We discussed the Subject, Plot, Tone, Themes, Point of View, and Audience for each of these pieces. Students were expected to take notes throughout the block. I discussed the Poetry test and gave students a general outline to use for formulating their essay for the test. In class, we practiced with the song "Banana Pancakes" by Jack Johnson. This song has been used for the test in the past. Students had about 45 minutes to practice writing. At the end of the block, I had them work in a small group to share their ideas and talk about what they wrote. Assignment: Poetry test in class on Friday. G3 - Collected a few signature pages for the IU program today... still need several... try to get those in to me ASAP. Checked double-entries for "We've Got Mail - Always" by Andrew Leonard. Discussed the article for almost the entire block today. By the end of the block, we had drafted out a graph of strengths and weaknesses for this article. Assignment: Read "Boy, You Fight Like a Girl" by Alex Pham (184-188), and complete a double-entry notebook assignment. Ignore the assignment printed on your calendar... I had to switch things around a little bit.
